Welcome to the free guided walking tour along the ancient trail of Rikalanmäki Hill! Rikalanmäki stands as a small ridge amidst the cultivated fields of Halikko, near the river and church. Archaeological discoveries in the area date back as far as the Ice Age, but the most significant finds are from the end of the Finnish Iron Age. In the Rikala area, two Iron Age burial sites have been discovered. Rikalanmäki and the nearby Linnamäki (Fort Hill) are part of the nationally significant landscape of the Halikko River Valley.
During the guided tour, you will learn more about the Iron Age settlements in this part of Finland, the life in the Rikala region during those times, and the findings from the burial sites. Welcome to travel back in time and discover what the landscape tells us about the past!
The meeting point for the tour is the lower parking area of Rikalanmäki, at Rikalantie 74, 24800 Halikko.

The tour lasts approximately one hour.

The tour is conducted in English, and your guide will be Sari Scimone from Salo Guides.
Please Note
The trail is about 0.5 km long and the terrain can be steep in places. There is also a challenging ascent from the parking area to the start of the ancient trail. This guided tour does not include a visit to Linnamäki Hill.
The tour takes place outdoors in all weather conditions. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy footwear suitable for the terrain. It is recommended to bring your own umbrella.

The tour is organized in cooperation with the Salo Guides and the Cultural Services of the City of Salo.
The Cultural Services of the City of Salo offers the tour for up to 25 participants free of charge. As the group size is limited, is advance registration required. Tickets must be reserved in advance through the Salo Guides online store. Simply press the VARAA-button, fill in the Finnish form with the number of participants and your contact information.
The group will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis on the online store - if you are not able to obtain the tickets, the tour is fully booked.
If the tour is cancelled due to force majeure, an update will be posted on the online store.
